Irish Dancers Apply Now for Bursary

Our friend, Ita Duncombe, died in 2015. The Okanagan Irish Society set up this award
in honour of Ita who was a long-standing member. She also served on the executive of
the OIS for many years. Ita was a great supporter of Irish Culture and Irish Heritage in
the Okanagan Valley. She was proud to be an Irish Canadian and spread the joy that
the Irish Culture brings to Canada. This award is available to dancers registered with
the OIS.

The recipient of this award should also feel the same as Ita:

  • • they should be someone who supports the spread of Irish culture and
    demonstrates pride in being Canadian
  • • they should also show a love for Irish Dance.

In order to submit your name to receive this award, you must:

  • • be a member in good standing of an Okanagan Based School of Irish Dance;
  • AND
  • • be a member in good standing of the Okanagan Irish Society

Please submit a paragraph, with writing kept to a one page maximum. All applicants
should specifically highlight why they think they should be considered for this award and
what they might put the funds towards if they were to receive a bursary.
This award and Ita are very close to so many people’s hearts, and the Okanagan Irish
Society continues to honour her memory when they present the award.
The plaque will be presented every December at the OIS Christmas party.
